2015 Meet the Commissioners - 14th May 2015 at 6:30pm
  The Wandsworth Clinical Commissioning Group plan and design the health and care services for the local area. The Commissioners are currently reviewing the community health services for people with Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia.

WSCTSG invites you to meet with the Commissioner to discuss your views on the Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia community health services provided by Balham Health Centre. There will also be an opportunity to comment on how care is provided by A&E and during admission.

2015 Sickle Cell Transition Club - 01 April 2015
 

A programme to support people with Sickle Cell with transitioning and moving from children's wards to adults.

Session run by Balham Health Centre.

   
2015 Self Awareness Through Movement session - 20th March 2015
 

Movement was your first communication method. Practice how to use movement to listen to your body and hear what your body is telling you. You will be amazed at what you will discover about yourself.

During the workshop you will be guided through a series of short self-awareness exercises followed by personal and group reflection. The movement undertaken in the session will be no more strenuous than walking.

- Gain an insight into yourself
- Create your own action plan for greater well being
- Fun, invigorating and enlightening

Come along and surprise yourself, you might meet a new you!

   
2015 Support Group Meeting - and Let's Talk - 13th February 2015 at 6:30pm
 

We are holding our first Support Group meeting of the year, which will encompass our Let's Talk discussion evening. It's a chance for us all to meet and discuss plans for the coming year.

There will be some warm refreshments available, along with warm and cool drinks.

If we haven't seen you for a while this would be a great opportunity to come down touch base.

Our Black History Month event was a discussion about the History of Sickle Cell, Perspectives and Relevance today.

2014 Let's Talk - Debate and Discussion Night  
 

Friday 21st March 6:30pm - What happened at the event??

Our next FNS event is an informal and friendly discussion night aimed at generating healthy debate on topics of interest to members. The topics will be aimed at being more thought-provoking or humorous than academically focused.

There is no expectation about how good or how confident you are as a speaker. Whether you have a simple life observation or a burning topical question that you want to be discussed, bring them along on the night and hear a range of views. Attendees can choose to actively engage in the discussions or can choose to attend and listen.

This year holds a great deal of advancement for the group. We will be running a number of sessions aimed at supporting people, and will range from and categorised as:

15th March - Managing Emotions Workshop; A specialist information session around dealing with the emotional effects of having a long term condition. Participants are able to identify common emotional responses to dealing with pain and explore different ways of coping with their emotions.

11th April - Skills Assessment and Confidence Building Workshop - 11th April 2012 6:30pm-8:30pm

GGT Solutions - Specialists in information, advice, guidance and training In this session you will:
  • This session helped participants to be able to identify what skills and resources they already have and how to use them to reach new or existing goals.

  • Learned confidence building techniques and tips to help to be successful to progress your goal

19th April - Health, Disability and the Workplace; Anderson Consultancy to outline key equalities issues and legislation aimed at protecting your rights in employment.

Speaker: Anderson Consultancy – Specialist in Equalities and Diversity Training

  • Participants were informed about health and disability issues relating to finding and maintaining employment
  • Explored their rights and correct procedures for tackling discriminatory practices
